Twittering Birds Never Fly

One of my top yaoi of all time

Notpia

I barely understand myself what feeling this manga brings forth in me.
My heart, my loins, they're throbbing - not with desire nor sadism but something third and unknowable.
It's not even fully translated I had to ask someone for the full scans and MTL it orz

Ani no Chuukoku

Really it's hard to choose between all of Nemui Asada's works. Dark and gritty but not flamboyantly so with a charming artstyle. The relationship and story in Ani appeals to me the most.

Dousei Yankee Akamatsu Seven

Walk On Water

Jaxx can do no wrong. Honestly I prefer this one to Green Light. It's a more subtle story. The uke has a unique personality, not tropey at all. He really doesn't have strong traits but instead of making him plain it makes him grounded. Also my perv brain likes seeing guys being gay-for-pay.

Ang Ang

Cute lovey-dovey couple with realistic relationship issues. Mediumcore bdsm. No secondary couple. Older, huger, pathetically cute uke with crazy gap moe: Absolutely no notes.

Shutline

Couple so macho I'm surprised no ones gun has been in someones ass yet.

Black Mirror

All in all a gentle horror story. A nice slow deliberate buildup paired with beautiful art.

Ichi the Killer

A cult classic and deservedly so. Comes with an awesome movie adaptation and OVA too. One of my favorite protagonists to date. And Kakihara is Heath Ledger Joker levels of iconic.

Summit of the Gods

Story about legacy, obsession, the limits of man, and the unforgiving thrall of nature. I read this after watching the movie (incredible in all aspects). The realistic art really grounds the story to the semi-nonfictional story. Consider that mountaineering is an artform as much as a sport - similar to martial arts. So you have these characters who are simultaneously athletes, artists, and explorers. And exploring the complexities and compulsions that propel this extreme lifestyle was awe-inspiring and harrowing. Also launched my week-long obsession with Everest.

Golden Kamuy

Bangerrrr. Really has it all: obscure history, encyclopedic factoids, stupid buttfart humor, gruesome action, stupid manly masculine men, and a bear. Honestly I don't like the anime that much; it really doesn't do Noda's art justice. Noda really loves hot hairy hunks, we are alike in that regard :P

Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku

Nazi moon laser... enough said. I feel like 4chan would really like this manga... don't know if that's a pro or con....

Kancil

Opened the door to guro for me. The rest of his series are more straight up disgusting guro but I keep Kancil close to my heart. Poor, poor Kancil...

Kami no Kodomo

Surreal, twisting, childlike, and gruesome. I love the juvenile artstyle, reminds me of the kiddie gothic books I used to read in primary school. I love the rest of their work too, especially the Kafka anthology.

Litchi Hikari Club

A classic you can't miss it. Imperialist Japan meets Lord of the Flies. Actually has similar aspects to Kami no Kodomo...

Kijin Gahou

This mangaka likes a good dose of humor with his horror. The simplistic artstyle is an outlier in horror manga - where its considered the more detailed and rendered the better. Not scary but yucky, weird, and fun.

Uzumaki

The first long series I read by Junji Ito. Fucking blew open my 12 year old brain. Super unique story that spirals into a beautifully cosmic conclusion. Cemented him as my favorite mangaka for years.
